There is a new notification centre that gathers every alert in one place and lets you mute the ones you do not want, lyrics now slide across with the track instead of blanking out and re-fetching, and the audio engine finally goes to sleep when nothing is playing. On top of that, a broad pass over navigation, shelves, right-click menus and the sidebar has taken a lot of the waiting out of moving around the app.\n\n## Notification centre 🔔\n\n- **Every alert in one place.** A bell in the toolbar opens a panel split into Active and History. Any notification can be muted on its own, or you can mute its whole category.\n- **A new Notifications page** under Settings → General lets you switch off entire categories; casting and AirPlay, lyrics, scrobbling, playlists and library, plugins, extensions and more; unmute anything you have silenced, keep history between launches, and choose how many entries to keep. Errors and essential alerts are always shown.\n- **Track change notifications now work on Windows.** The desktop notification setting previously did nothing on the Windows client. It now fires once per track, and only while Cider is not focused.\n- **Song toasts no longer fail to appear** when artwork is missing or unreachable.\n- **Scrobble failures are reported once per service** rather than once per track, and re-arm when the service recovers.\n- Clearing history is confirmed in the panel itself instead of in a dialog, and rows animate in and out as they arrive and leave.\n- Plugins get their own category and their own source, so plugin alerts can be attributed and muted like anything else.\n- A sticky playback error now stays put instead of disappearing on the next tick, and dismissing an inactive notification runs its callback properly.\n- \"Notification Style\" has been removed from Advanced and \"Playback Notifications\" has moved into the new Notifications page.\n\n## Lyrics 🎤\n\n- **Lyrics move with the track.** Changing track no longer blanks the lyrics and re-fetches them. The old lines slide out and the new ones slide in, in the direction you skipped, and they are usually already there because the next and previous tracks in the queue are fetched ahead of time.\n- **Word-by-word lyrics look right outside immersive.** Sing lyrics in the drawer, split view, queue tab and mini player now lift each word as it is sung and give held words the per-glyph bump, glow and float that the immersive player already had. The last word of a line gets the full finish instead of being cut off, and seeking back into a line lands mid-animation rather than replaying it.\n- Lyrics no longer briefly highlight the wrong line straight after a track change, and the gap countdown appears on the first paint when lyrics arrive mid-gap.\n- Missing lyrics right after launch are fixed; the language lookup was firing before your storefront had resolved and quietly coming back empty.\n\n## Playback 🎵\n\n- **Music videos that used to fail now play.** Cider was picking the top rung of the video ladder, but anything above 1080p is FairPlay-only and cannot be decrypted here, so the attempt died as a silent key timeout. Variant selection now checks the codec and key format, prefers a playable rung, and retargets mid-load if the one it picked turns out to be unplayable.\n- **Restored sessions resume properly.** Reopening Cider used to stream your track from the beginning, snap the progress bar to zero and only then seek to where you left off. The saved position is now handed to the engine up front, so playback starts at the right segment with no snap-back and no re-download.\n- **The heart and library state of the restored track is correct** after a relaunch instead of showing whatever it was last time.\n- Content that silently failed to load at startup now loads; catalog requests made before your storefront resolved were going out malformed and returning nothing.\n- The \"Legacy Fetch\" experiment has been removed from Settings → Experiments.\n\n## Performance ⚡\n\n- **Cider is quiet when it is not playing.** The shared audio pipeline used to run forever, so the equaliser, limiter and ticker kept processing silence and held the renderer near five per cent of a core with nothing playing. It now suspends twenty seconds after playback settles and wakes on the next play, and it is correctly held open for AirPlay, casting and host audio capture. The delay is long enough that pausing and resuming never pays for it.\n- **The visualiser stops drawing when nothing is playing**, and no longer wakes the main thread on every frame of a high refresh rate display.\n- **Sidebar destinations open faster.** The next page starts loading while the outgoing one is still animating away, and Listen Now, Browse and Radio are warmed shortly after startup. A new **Preload sidebar pages** setting under Settings → Performance offers Off, On hover and When idle, with When idle as the default.\n- **Shelf-heavy pages open much faster.** Shelves now build only the cards near the viewport, and only the columns that fit on screen, with the rest built as you scroll.\n- **Right-click menus feel instant.** The rating and library lookup starts when you press the button rather than after the menu is already open, so the round trip hides behind the press.\n- **Page navigation no longer waits behind an exit animation**, and the timing used for page transitions is now sampled once the app has settled rather than during the jankiest moment of startup.\n- Library Albums no longer refetched your entire album library on every return, Library Songs no longer re-walks the library on a cold cache, and the artists sort runs off the main thread.\n- Library Genres, Concerts and Podcasts stay in memory when you leave them, so going back is instant.\n- Fixed several leaks that built up over a session, most of them around the lyrics view and the immersive player.\n- Startup does less work: the coverflow queue's dependencies are loaded on first use rather than at boot.\n- A rate limit from Apple no longer raises a \"service issue\" notification, and Cider now waits as long as it is asked to before retrying.\n\n## Library and browsing 📚\n\n- **Previously Played is back.** Right-clicking the queue button reopens it, with Resume from Previous Session and Play a Random Recent Item.\n- **Pin playlists to the compact sidebar.** Collapsing the sidebar used to hide every playlist. You can now pin up to twelve as artwork tiles that stay one click away, via Pin to Compact Sidebar in a playlist's right-click menu. These pins are local to the device and separate from your Apple Music library pins.\n- **Recently viewed has been rebuilt.** It opens anchored under the back button instead of at the cursor, so it can no longer fly out of the opposite corner near a window edge, it closes when you pick something, and its artwork appears immediately on a cold cache.\n- **Curator notes are much better.** Clicking an album or playlist blurb now shows the long editorial note where one exists rather than only the short one, chooses its layout to suit the length, tints itself from the artwork, and replaces the old metadata list with chips for genre, release date, track count, duration and label.\n- **Concerts is no longer a blank page when it has nothing to show.** It now has a refresh button, a loading state and proper empty states for no location, no search matches and no results. Picking a single day in the date filter works, a failed request is no longer cached for an hour, and search de-duplication handles accented text correctly.\n- **A release credited to two artists you follow appears once** in the artist feed instead of twice. Existing feeds heal themselves on load.\n- Collapsing and expanding the sidebar is one clean slide now.\n- Right-click menus on sidebar rows are rebuilt each time they open, so their entries can no longer go stale.\n\n## Appearance ✨\n\n- **Album and playlist colours stay readable.** Colours pulled from artwork are now checked against the surface they sit on, so play and shuffle buttons, labels and the playing indicator do not wash out. A new **Artwork Color Contrast** setting under Settings → Visual offers Standard, Enhanced and Maximum; the High Contrast accessibility setting always uses Maximum.\n- **Entering and leaving immersive is now a lens-style dolly.** The browser layer blurs and recedes while the background, artwork and controls arrive at different depths under a brief chromatic fringe, and the exit pulls back out. It is also faster and lighter on the GPU than the transition it replaces.\n- **Opening an uncached album or playlist looks right.** The loading skeleton rides in with the page slide instead of appearing part of the way through, the header enters properly, and the floating mini title no longer flashes on every cold open.\n- **The now-playing text no longer jumps sideways** when a track with a music video comes up, and stays centred on tracks without one.\n- Native right-click menus on Windows size correctly, no more stale heights, hairline scrollbars on menus that fit, or a reopened menu remembering where it was scrolled to.\n- The queue tab platter is more opaque, so text behind it no longer shows through.\n- Fixes to glaze colouring in dark mode, and the floating fully rounded inline player is round again.\n- With Reduced Motion on, drawer and sidebar animations report no duration and no longer desync, and the full-page settle effect on a sidebar resize is skipped.\n- The accent-coloured glow has been dropped from the update buttons.\n\n## Scrobbling and connections 🔗\n\n- **The scrobble album artist toggle works.** It was silently falling back to the track artist because the album's own artist name was never provided.\n- **Artist rewrite rules now apply to the album artist too**, and the rule field dropdown shows Artist, Track and Album rather than a lowercase term.\n- The Discord presence preview in Connectivity settings no longer shows artwork or an artist from the previous track, and falls back cleanly when an image cannot be loaded.\n- Pairing a Cider Remote over LAN now explains what it does and that a restart is required.\n\n## Security 🔒\n\n- **Cider's local API no longer listens on every interface by default.** It binds to loopback unless you have actually paired a remote in LAN mode, and browser requests are restricted to loopback origins rather than being accepted from anywhere. Cider Remote and tunnel-mode remotes are unaffected.\n\n## Updates 🔄\n\n- **The updater no longer offers you a build older than the one you are running.** Versions were being compared by stripping out everything but the digits, so any difference read as an update — and it also meant a minor release such as 4.1.0 would never have been offered at all. Comparison now works component by component, with prerelease builds sorting below their release. Git builds and moves between channels are still always offered, so nobody gets stranded.\n\n## macOS and Linux 🐧\n\n- **Restart Cider actually restarts Cider.** The button used to reload the setup window rather than the app. Relaunching now works on Flatpak, where the app is restarted by its launcher, and on AppImage, where it goes through the file on disk rather than the mount that disappears at exit.\n- **The setup and updater window is readable in light mode.** It was white text on a white page.\n- **The setup window opens at the right size for the tab it starts on** and resizes as you switch tabs, instead of being created small and resized afterwards, which Linux compositors ignore.\n- **Builds with no bundled interface send you to Updates** to install one instead of opening a blank window.\n- After signing in, the login tab hands off to Updates on its own.\n- On Linux, the tray icon menu opens and stays in step with what is playing, gains an Open Tray Player entry when the tray is set to the popup player, and the tray popup lands in the right corner on desktops that do not report where the icon is.\n- Linux now defaults to your desktop's own title bar, since compositor decorations cannot be matched reliably.",[99,103,107,111,115],{"name":100,"desc":101,"icon":102},"Notification centre","Every alert in one panel, with per-category muting and history that survives a restart","ion-ios-notifications",{"name":104,"desc":105,"icon":106},"Quiet when idle","The audio engine now shuts down after twenty seconds of silence instead of holding a core awake","ion-ios-battery-charging",{"name":108,"desc":109,"icon":110},"Faster everywhere","Pages, shelves and right-click menus open sooner, and sidebar destinations are warmed in the background","ion-ios-speedometer",{"name":112,"desc":113,"icon":114},"Lyrics that keep up","Lines slide across with the track change, and the next song's lyrics are already loaded","ion-ios-microphone",{"name":116,"desc":117,"icon":118},"Music videos that play","Cider now picks a video rung it can actually decrypt, fixing videos that failed with a silent timeout","ion-ios-videocam",1789704962138]
